New Zealand art-rock icons Split Enz brought creativity, eccentricity and unforgettable melodies to the global stage. Formed in Auckland in the early 1970s by Tim Finn and Phil Judd, the band became known for their theatrical performances, quirky visuals and adventurous songwriting. Their breakthrough album True Colours delivered the hit “I Got You”, propelling Split Enz to international fame and cementing their place in pop-rock history.
With albums including Dizrythmia, Time and Tide and Conflicting Emotions, Split Enz combined art-pop experimentation with sharp lyrical insight. The band nurtured talents later seen in Crowded House, influencing generations of musicians across Australasia. Their legacy endures as one of the most innovative and beloved acts in New Zealand’s music story.
