Melbourne & Olympic Parks set for bumper summer of events

Melbourne & Olympic Parks (M&OP) will resume its place as Australia’s heart of sports and entertainment this summer, with a host of world-class events set to light up the precinct.

From the Australian Open, to international sport returning to AAMI Park with the Socceroos, to the likes of Midnight Oil at Rod Laver Arena, there will be no shortage of opportunities for guests to get back to enjoying the events they love.

M&OP CEO, Mr John Harnden, said the precinct’s summer of sports and entertainment will play a significant role in reinvigorating Victoria’s events industry.

“The experience of the last 18 months has reminded us just how much live events matter, not just in their contribution to the economy, but in helping to facilitate community connection,” he said.

“We’re excited to be creating plenty of opportunities for our community to reunite around those shared experiences and enjoy everything our iconic venues have to offer.”

Football fans have a massive summer to look forward to, with the Socceroos set to host Vietnam in a World Cup Qualifier on 27 January.

The first time in more than four years that the Socceroos have played in Melbourne, to come off the back of the annual Big Blue double-header between Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC on 25 January.

The NBL is back at John Cain Arena, while Grand Slam tennis will return to Melbourne Park in January for the Australian Open.

From 17 – 30 January 2022, hundreds of thousands of tennis fans are set to have access to the world’s best Grand Slam facilities, following the completion of a brand new 5,000 seat Show Court Arena and stunning new dining precinct.

And it is not only sports fans who will be spoilt for choice this summer, with headline music and entertainment acts returning to the precinct shortly after the tennis.

After a completely sold out 2019 tour, comedy troupe Sooshi Mango debut at Rod Laver Arena with a brand-new live show in February 2022, while the Australian Ballet is set to once again dazzle Margaret Court Arena with the Summertime Ballet Gala.

The Wiggles, including the OG Wiggles, will make their much-anticipated return to Rod Laver Arena in March, while M&OP is also set to welcome back some of the world’s biggest music acts, with Ocean AlleyAmy Shark and Midnight Oil just a few of the artists set to hit the stage.
